Manufacture

As hinted at on the home page, I’ve essentially retired from making flutes, at least in the sense of offering a standard series of models in different pitches.
After closing the order book in May 2018, it took me the most of three years of intense work to work off what was on the books.

It was always my intention to continue to develop the design of the Irish flute, and the constant pressure of a waiting list wasn’t really allowing this to happen. The pressure of the waiting list has evaporated, but as many people have discovered, remove some area of endeavour from your life, and other things immediately expand to fill the space.

I’ll eventually expand this page to include the history of the development of the modern simple system flute, distinct as it is from the making of copies of historic instruments intended for playing period music.

You’ll find a basic account of the process in THE IRISH FLUTE PLAYER’S HANDBOOK, and there are some relevant posts on my FLUTEMAKER BLOG.
