Handbook

I published the Irish Flute Player’s Handbook in 1990, nine years after I first had the idea.

When I say I published it, I really mean I published it. When an initial publishing deal with Mercier Press fell through, I worked under the auspices of John Loesberg of Ossian Publications to basically self publish the book.

This was in pre-computer days, so the book was basically laid out on a literally cut and paste system, which was then turned into “bromides” from which the printing plates were made.

Again being in the pre-digital age, the first print run of the first edition had a floppy vinyl recording, containing the examples for the tutor section, which was bound into the book. If you can find one of these with the floppy still intact you could be onto a good thing!

This new edition, brings the first edition up to date, and although in the same format, contains much new information, as well as a new section of colour plates.

The discography has been extended to 1990, which marks the last flute LP and the first original flute CD recordings.
The tutor section now has an accompanying CD, which has a couple of bonus tracks from my Moneymusk CD.
This time we have also published a limited edition of 250 signed and numbered hardback copies.
